Ways to Brighten Your Home for the Winter

It’s that time of year when the days seem shorter and feel colder. On the dreariest and gloomiest of winter days, you clearly understand the expression, “there’s no place like home”!

Amd it's true that there is probably nothing much better than entering a warm, cozy home on cold winter days after a long day at work, school, and so on. And even when you spend most of your time at home, you can appreciate the benefits of having a comfortable, bright and cheery décor.

There are plenty of simple and versatile ways you can brighten your home for the winter months. Even better? You can do so without spending a lot of time or money and the results will look fantastic!

Here are four ways to brighten your home for the winter

1. Remove mesh window screens

We occasionally experience (and cherish!) mild days during the winter and may choose to open your windows on those days. If you don’t plan to open windows during the winter months though, you may want to try removing the mesh screens. You’ll then be able to enjoy the extra natural lighting that comes through your windows on sunny days.

2. Cover furniture with lighter-colored fabrics

Light-colored, white, or ivory fitted slipcovers for your sofa/sectional, recliners, etc., feel lighter as well as make the entire room look brighter. In the dining room, you can achieve the same effect using a lighter-colored tablecloth which deflects light and brightens the room.

3. Swap out your light bulbs

The differences between a warm white, cool white, and daylight bulb can impact the entire feel of the room. If you haven’t already, you may want to go ahead and make the switch to more efficient LED bulbs. The right lighting can make your room look automatically brighter and cheerful.

4. Install lighter-colored window treatments

Let the sun shine through your windows by replacing heavy, dark drapes with lighter-colored and/or sheer window treatments during the winter months. Hanging drapes so you can easily pull them apart is a great way to allow as much natural light into your home during the day.
