Easy Tips for Organizing a Small Kitchen

Easy Tips for Organizing a Small Kitchen

Now that the holidays have come and gone your home has probably gotten back to normal. Or at least it’s getting there. Although it may be too early for “spring cleaning,” this is a good time of year to organize the different rooms in your house. For many of us, it may be too cold outside to tackle yardwork, so that leaves us with plenty of time to focus on our home’s interior.

Since the kitchen is typically one of the most active rooms in a house, it’s a good place to start organizing. For some reason, clutter seems to form more quickly in our kitchens than some of our other rooms. As well, almost everyone desires more space for their kitchen utensils, plates, silverware, cookware, containers, and so on.

When you have a small kitchen, it may seem even more complicated to find enough space for everything you need. A little organizing will go a long way to help create extra space and improve a small kitchen’s appearance.

Here are a few ideas for maximizing space in a small kitchen:

  1. Install shelves on your kitchen walls at different levels to maximize counter and cabinet space. Shelves are especially useful for items such as cookbooks or even for your dishes.
  2. Hang kitchen tools, measuring cups, or even pots and pans on the backs of doors and/or kitchen cabinets.
  3. Purchase clear plastic containers and use them to group similar items together in your pantry or cupboard. Make sure to label the containers so you easily tell what is in them.
  4. Use decorative baskets or containers to collect clutter.
  5. Maximize cupboard space with pullout drawers. Position or build the drawers within your cupboard and fill them with items such as spices, snacks, or cleaning supplies.
  6. Create extra room by filing your bakeware and cutting boards horizontally. You can easily find and purchase bakeware holders or create your own.

These are just a few ideas to get you started with organizing your small kitchen. What tips would you add?
