Ward off the Moving Day Blues by Hiring Trustworthy Movers

It doesn’t matter if you’re moving to a new home in a different state or just a mile or two down the road -- you’re probably going to feel stressed about moving. It’s normal to feel nervous, of course.

For one thing, if you are packing your belongings yourself, you might be surprised by how much time and patience it actually requires. You may feel pressed for time and begin worrying about whether you’re bringing too many things or leaving something important behind.

Another cause for stress is that you’re most likely relying on and trusting other people to safely move your valuables and possessions. It’s definitely not the time you should have to deal with trust issues, regardless of whether you hire your movers or you have friends and/or family helping.

Unfortunately, problems and incidents can and usually do arise during the moving process. Although most moving mishaps are minor, most of us have heard horror stories about moves gone wrong. Luckily, there are some things you can do to help prevent moving day problems – or even avoid them altogether – by hiring trustworthy movers.

Rogue or incompetent movers can turn your dream of moving into a nightmare

At best, the worst thing that can happen is that your movers show up late. Although inconvenient, especially if you’re on a tight schedule, this is something that happens often due to traffic, confusion with directions, etc.

Another problem is hiring movers who end up being careless, reckless, or inexperienced. This is problematic since they may break, lose or damage your belongings. Not only does this result in financial stress, but can certainly cause emotional stress as well.

The worst case, however, is hiring movers who are scam artists. These movers may hold your belongings until you pay extra fees or even take off with your valuable possessions.

What is the best way to avoid hiring bad movers?

One important thing you should do is to carefully research your movers before hiring them. Ensure you are only dealing with licensed and experienced professionals you can trust.

Finally, to be on the safe side, it’s also a good idea to purchase appropriate insurance for your belongings, just in case. Spending the extra money up front may seem like a hassle, but could end up being a financial lifesaver.
