The Best Campground Sites Near Atlanta, GA


It’s no secret Georgia has some of the most captivating nature sites in the entire country. This summer, instead of fighting traffic to hit the beach or vacationing to the same run-of-the-mill water or theme parks, load up the car and get back to the great outdoors for an ultimate camping experience. We have compiled a list of the best campground sites near Atlanta:



Stone Mountain Park Campground -- Stone Mountain, GA

As a Georgian, it is a right of passage to spend time exploring Stone Mountain and the area around it. The Stone Mountain Park campground has several different sites for camping that suits your style -- six Yurt sites, RV sites, and tent sites. Each site comes complete with a grill, picnic table, and fire ring. Other amenities include a swimming pool, a sand volleyball court, children’s playground, and a traditional general store.



Oconee River Campground -- Greensboro, GA

Sitting right on the banks of the great Oconee River, the Oconee River campground offers five campsites with tables, tent pads, and grills. Reservations are not required, but sites do go on a first come, first serve basis. If fishing is your game, you must have your permit on hand for your boat and fishing itself.



Chattahoochee Bend State Park -- Newnan, GA

Located in northwest Coweta County, Chattahoochee Bend is one of Georgia’s largest state parks. This park offers 51 campsites, with access to a boat ramp and 12 miles of forest-laden hiking trails. In addition to hiking, Chattahoochee Bend has mountain bike trails, kayak and canoe rentals, a children’s playground, picnic areas and geocaching.


Vogel State Park -- Blairsville, GA

Vogel State Park is one of Georgia’s oldest and most pristine state parks, set at the base of Blood Mountain with impeccable views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Vogel State Park includes up to 17 miles of hiking and backpacking trails, kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals, bike rentals, a 22-acre lake with a beach, 103 total campsites and 35 cottages. This site is the peak of the camping experience; you’ll never run out of things to do!



Unicoi State Park -- Helen, GA

Unicoi State Park, set 90 miles outside of Atlanta, offers four campsite options: Little Brook Spur and Laurel Ridge, Hickory Hollow, Big Brook RV, and The Squirrel’s Nest. Picnic tables and fire rings are available at each site. Spend the day visiting Anna Ruby Falls nearby the campsite, go swimming in Smith Lake (or lay out on the sand beach), or go fishing! Pets are allowed, but must be kept on a leash.
